Open Door Mission

On Friday, May 3, three of our high school students, along with Mr. V, served supper to those in need at the Open Door Mission, in Rochester. The group helped with setting tables, preparing supper, scooping food on plates, and cleaning up afterwards! Thanks to Natalie, Drew, and Trisha for helping in this important work! May God always be praised in our work!

EPCRC Sunday Morning Worship

Our EPCHS Choir was happy to join the East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church congregation in Sunday morning service. The choir joined in the morning hymns, including two stanzas of Beautiful Savior sung a cappella, as well as two anthems—The Glory of the Father by Egil Hovland and E’en So, Lord Jesus, Quickly Come by Paul Manz. We thank the folks at EPCRC for the invitation to worship our God together!

Solo Fest

On Saturday, three EPCS vocalists participated in a NYSSMA Solo Festival at Sodus High School. Amelia Ennis, Katie Winslow, and Claire Boss each performed a level 4 solo and sight reading for a judge. The judges’ comments were very positive, and the girls earned either “Excellent” or “Outstanding” ratings. Congratulations to them for taking on this extra challenge, and a huge thank you their accompanist, Lonnie Hohenboken. Thanks as well to our Music teacher, Mrs. Kathy Cornwell for her work with these students!

Happening at EPCS!!!

What a busy EPCS week this is going to be, especially Saturday! Let me outline some of the events for you. Now, pay attention! There will be a quiz!! No kidding!!! (Find it at the back of the School Door.)

Tuesday is the first deadline day for Lap-a-thon Pledge Sheets! Turn in your sheets on or before Tuesday, May 7 and receive a prizes for the most sheets returned! Return 25 sheets and you automatically will earn your Lap-a-thon Tee shirt. When is that again? TUESDAY. (Tomorrow).

And then comes Saturday!! Saturday will see a host of EPCS activities including the following:

At 7:30 in the morning we (the middle and high schoolers and families) will be serving breakfast. Yes, breakfast. Mrs. White will be at the griddle, flipping pancakes, no, OWNING them flapjacks, and we will serve sausages, maple syrup, fruit, juice, and, of course, a 7:30 am staple, coffee!!

Then at 8:30 am, a great group of hardy souls will be participating in the 5K Run/2mi Walk event. This fundraiser will benefit the EPCS budget and has umpteen sponsors and supporters. Breakfast will be served to the runners AFTER the run! Be there to cheer on the participants and stay for breakfast.

And, at 9:30 am, Auctioneer Supreme, Bud Beckens, will auction off a bevvy of beautifully delectable cakes, pies, tortes, and a host of other scrumptious desserts, just in time for Mother’s Day. Be there, bid and buy, and make Mother’s Day an even more special day for mom!!!

And, to top it all off, we are having the annual Family Night at the Red Wings in the evening. Hopefully you have already reserved your tickets to the game. If not, I’m afraid you will have to wait until next year (unless you get tickets on your own at the door). And, in addition, our EPCHS Chorus and Friends will be singing “God Bless America” during the seventh inning stretch. Join us for this fun night.

What a week!!! What a Saturday. Oh, and don’t forget that next week Friday, May 17 will be the date for our evening EPCS Bands and Choruses Spring Concert!! Mark that one down, too, please.

OK, now, take the Quiz. It is located at the end of the School Door. Do your best!!!

EPCS Dutch Dinner

What a great evening we had on Friday evening at the annual EPCS Dutch Dinner. Het was een erg gezellige avond met heerlijk eten! (It was a cozy/happy/warm evening with delicious food.) We waaren allemaal zichtbaar aan-gedikt. (We became visually more rotund!)

(Faculty and staff were treated to freshly fried olie-bolen topped with icing sugar during the day, compliments of Ed and Sadie O’Brien, and Arie and Molly Benne!! Thanks so much, you guys!)

Dutch lettuce, Snert, Stampot, Zuurenkool, Appelmoes, Worst, and Olie-bolen!!! Need we say more? I think not. No, you did not need to be able to speak Dutch to enjoy the ambience and the food. You didn’t even need to BE Dutch. But there were enough of you Dutchmen (and women) there, that’s for sure. It was good to see all of you!! Thanks to everyone, from any background, for supporting EPCS, and for sharing with us a taste of Holland!! As supporters of East Pal, we are a community of diverse backgrounds and we are one in Christ! May God bless us all, as a community, and as individuals!

EPCS 19th Annual Young Artists Festival

This Friday, yes the Friday of this week, will see our students sing, play, dance, recite, and perform, as well as show artwork to the community in praise to God. This is Young Artists Festival week, the 19th one since its inception in the mid 1990s. Here’s how the week stacks up:

On Thursday, in the afternoon, we will have our Peer Performance time, a time where our participants will perform before their peers.

On Friday morning, the participants will perform before adjudicators.

On Friday afternoon, the school will turn into an artists fair, complete with multiple arts workshops and events.

On Friday evening at 7 pm, we will host the Young Artists Festival Concert, where participants will perform before and with our community.

So, mark your calendar for Friday evening, for the 19th Annual YAF Concert, and join us at 7:15 pm! See you there.

Tenebrae Service

Please mark your calendar for Wednesday evening, March 27th, and plan to attend the annual Tenebrae Service. The EPCHS Chorus and Friends will read scripture and sing choral pieces, including the cantata On the Passion of Christ by David H. Williams, music for Lent and Holy Week. Please join us at 7:15 pm for this special program! Invite your Wednesday evening church group along!

Open Door Mission Trip

On Friday, March 15th, three high schoolers, Natalie, Trisha, & Drew traveled with chaperones, Mr. Winslow and Mr. Vanderzwan, to the Open Door Mission in Rochester NY, where they helped prepare food, and serve people in need. This was an opportunity that not many high schoolers get, and it was an eye opening experience. The high schoolers have already decided to go back again to help out. One comment heard as they returned from the Open Door Mission was, “My heart goes out to them.” –quoted by Trisha.

The students learned that many of the people in the Mission were recovering drug addicts, or that they suffered the loss of a job and were faced with homelessness. It was quite easy for the students to help the clients by just giving of their time. The job of serving was simple but many of the people there appreciated the help that the EPCHS students provided. Memories were made and they will be scheduling it again. If you are interested in helping, you can help talk to Mr. Vanderzwan, or go to http://www.opendoormission.com/ for more information.
Article by Natalie and Trisha

All County Middle and High School Instrumental Concert

The All County Middle and High School Instrumental Concert was held on Saturday at 2 pm at the Pal-Mac High School. Several of our students and home-school students represented East Pal Christian! (Congratulations to each of them and to their teacher, Mrs. Cornwell!) It was a great concert!

Congratulations

Congratulations to Joey Malach, a fifth grader at EPCS. Joey has been chosen as a semi-finalist for the NY State National Geography Bee. This bee will be held on April 5th at the NY State Museum. Winners will go on to the National Finals in Washington, DC.
