Tour and Information Nights at EPCS

Come Join Us on Our Annual EPCS Progressive Dinner!

On Saturday evening, January 15, 2011, the EPCS Board will host an EPCS community Progressive Dinner! This exciting, community-oriented event will be stationed at a variety of homes and will consist of appetizers, soup and salad, main course, and dessert. Please feel free to contact Julie O’Dell for reservations and more information. This can also be done through calling our EPCS office (597-4400). Please feel free to dine with us and join in this wonderful event.

EPCS Fundraiser–It’s Comin’ Up

Please check your mailboxes, physical and email, in the next several weeks, for information regarding an up-coming mail-in or on-line fundraiser for East Palmyra Christian School. Via snail mail or email, you will be asked to choose from several causes for which to donate, and all monies you donate will be spent on the cause you indicate. Causes like the Scholarship Fund (the fund we use to help families who apply for, and receive, financial aid) and Budget Deficit Reduction Fund (a fund whose name speaks for itself…) will be on the list. More information will be given as the fund-raising dates draw nearer. Please keep this effort in your prayers.

Also, please feel free to help us as we try to collect emails and addresses of EPCS Alumni. We have nearly 200 email addresses of alums and others, but we are looking to contact all those who have attended EPCS or who have supported EPCS in the past. If you could send us an email with current home addresses and/or email addresses of those you know, but we may not, we would appreciate that tremendously. Please help us as you can. We look forward to hearing from you.

In the meantime, keep praying for our efforts here at EPCS. This is a great place, God’s place, and we are teaching and communing with God’s children in this EPCS community. We are blessed! Pray that we also may be a blessing!

You Are Invited!

Please join the EPCS community as we give a baby shower for Mrs. Maag. Everyone is welcome. The shower will be held in the music room at 3:00p on Thursday, Jan. 13, unless Baby Maag chooses to put in an early appearance. Please RSVP to Mrs. Morgan (926-7740) so we can plan for refreshments.

EPCS Basketball

Yes, Virginia, there Is an EPCS Basketball team!!! In fact, they have played two matches this week!!! This young, and very inexperienced team, although not winning either game, has been scoring in double digits, and has been gaining a wealth of experience. Coaches Hooge and Feinour are working with the players, teaching them skills needed for on-the-court play. Coach Hooge mentioned to me what a difference there was from one game to the next in terms of noticeable increase in abilities!

The team plays at home on Tuesday, January 11, with Rochester Christian School, and again on Tuesday, January 25, with Pavilion Home School. Please join us on those two home-game dates. The entrance fee is free and the seating is all court-side!!!

Reminder to Mark Your Calendars for Other Events Down the Road!

I know this is a long way off, but please mark your calendars for this event: EPCS Gifting Seminar–Tuesday, April 12, 2011. This important seminar will be led by Sue Priem, Financial Planner. She will lead a workshop and subsequent discussion on Financial Planning and Gifting. Please talk up this very important seminar, especially with those who wish to discuss the opportunities of giving to organizations such as East Palmyra Christian School.

Also, please mark your calendar for this event: Ken Medema In Concert–Thursday, March 17, 2011. Ken Medema is a Christian song writer, singer, and pianist, and he is blind. Ken has the gift of, after hearing a story told by someone, creating, on the spot, a song themed on that story and singing it to his audience, and, at the same time, in his reconstruction of the story, capturing and amplifying its highlights and meaning. Ken has performed locally (at EPCS in 2000) and across the US and the world. EPCS will host Ken at school during the day, and in the evening in a venue still to be announced. Be sure to keep this evening free and plan to attend this amazing concert!

On behalf of the faculty and staff at EPCS, the EPCS Board and Committees, I wish you God’s richest blessings in this Christmas season, the celebration of our King’s birth! May God surround you with God’s presence. May God bless you and keep you. And may God’s face shine upon you!

Season of Advent

This past Thursday evening our high schoolers, supported by EPCS staff and community members, presented a Festival of Lessons and Carols, celebrating the season of Advent and of Christimas. The group shared beautiful music with the audience, and together, we worshiped God in scripture readings, prayers, and song!
Thanks to Mrs. Stephanie Mercer for accompanying the group on the piano!

Piano on Loan

As I reported at the EPCS All-School Christmas Program on December 3, our school piano is in the shop for repairs. As it turns out, the instrument is so old that many parts are broken, deteriorated, and on the way out. Unfortunately, parts are not available to replace broken and worn ones. We will investigate more in the next several weeks, whether there is any hope for our faithful piano.
In the meantime, the Nielsen family has allowed us to use a piano in the interim. Mr. and Mrs. Nielsen of Syracuse, Mrs. Butterfield’s mom and dad, have loaned us their piano until we secure another one, or until the old one is restored. Thanks so much, Mr. and Mrs. Nielsen, for your generosity, and also to Gary and Lisa Butterfield for arranging to have the instrument here in time for yesterday evening’s program. We are grateful!

OK, so now the scouting begins for another school piano. I have researched a variety of makes and styles, and have settled on one in particular. Schools where I have taught in the past have had much success with the Yamaha P22, an institutional piano that is made specifically for schools and other music institutions. The Yamaha P22 has an excellent reputation as a sturdy piano, and yet, a piano that has an excellent touch and sound. I have seen this instrument (used) on craigslist for around $2500. The P22 is not an electronic piano.
Here’s what I’m asking of you: please keep your eyes open for a Yamaha P22 or, for that matter, for sales of pianos from music institutions like Eastman School of Music, Hochstein School of Music, or local colleges and universities. These organizations recycle their instruments somewhat regularly to accommodate their budgets, and may have an instrument available for a reasonable price. We are not necessarily in a hurry, but I think we should begin the process! Let me know if you have any leads.

Help!!! Sorry to sound like a broken record but we need MORE pictures for the yearbook. Please remember that it is very different this year from years past. Previously, Jane Ballesty did a wonderful job being at the school frequently to take pictures. This year we need more help because I am simply putting the yearbook together for publication. YOU are the photographers!!!
Thank you Mrs. Lent for the pictures you passed on to us. We need more! PLEASE don’t let them sit in your camera. Take the few moments to transfer them on a FREE cd located in the schools yearbook mail slot. TEACHERS and STAFF, please use the schools camera. If it is in the drawer it isn’t doing the kids any good. We have no pictures from any recent field trips. We need good GROUP pictures as well as candid shots. We’ll take everything you have so we have a decent choice for the book. Thank you, in advance, for your help sharing in this project.
